Lisa Daugherty

Lisa was an accomplished artist, whose work included paintings, sculpture, handmade plastics, cast epoxy, perforated metal sheet, metal shrines, silk banners, experimental jewelry, woodcut prints, drawings, large painted fans, constructions, and decorative arts. She studied sculpture at the University of Miami, graphics with Carlos Dyer at the Silvermine Guild, painting at the Art Students League in New York City, and drama at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Her art is in many permanent public and private collections including the town of Weston CT, Mount Sinai hospital in New York, and Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport CT. Lisa exhibited her artwork prolifically including shows at the Erie Art Center in Erie PA, Silvermine Arts Center, the Museum of Science and Industry, in Bridgeport, the Stamford Museum, and the Westport Arts Center among others.

Her work was influenced by the bright dynamic colors used in Synchromism, by Greek mythology, and by the lively art and social environment created in her Broad Street home and studio, which was shared with her husband of many years, Charles Daugherty, and her father-in-law James Daugherty, a prominent modernist artist and illustrator. In addition to being an artist, Lisa was an active member of the Fairfield County Connecticut art scene, dedicating much of her professional life to the arts. She taught art in New York and in the Connecticut Schools enrichment programs, appeared on numerous panels and boards, served on the Westport-Weston Arts Council Board, curated and directed art exhibits and managed dance festivals for the town of Weston. She was the director of La Commedia, Comedia dell' Arte Company in New York for 8 years.
